Give me more!!

Today Sullivan had his 6 month checkup. We are a little behind since he was sick and life is busy!! He is doing great, and boy is he growing. Today we had some great news from the doctor.....we can now start baby food!

In addition to the cereal he's been eating we can now introduce meats, yes meats. Our doctors advised us to start Sullivan on plain meats, then go to vegetables and last fruits. Why you may ask? Well it actually makes good sense. Fruits are sweet and if you give them to your baby first they will like them and only them. Some vegetables can also be sweet, so we start with something that has very little to no sugar in it and gradually work it in his appetite.

Tonight was the big night. I could hardly wait until dinner time to give him some chicken. I mixed up a batch of cereal and opened the jar of organic chicken and brown rice. Half and half on the spoon, in the mouth and two seconds later we hear, "Mmmm." The boy loves it!!

I love him so much and love that he loves food. Hopefully down the road he will not be a picky eater. Here's a video clip of our little stud eating his first bit of baby food.

New Beginnings

On Monday, Sullivan had another first.... Over the weekend we continued to stay inside as much as possible so that Sullivan could get all better before his big day on Monday. Sullivan was starting a new daycare at a daycare center.

Mike and I were very excited he was going to a daycare center where he'd have structure, we'd get reports daily, he'd get to play with kids his own age, and he'd be able to stay at until he was out of preschool. This facility is very nice and the staff seemed very friendly. In fact, two members from our church work there.

Sullivan, thank goodness, was feeling much much better and was getting back to his normal self on Sunday. He even took a 3 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon. When Monday morning rolled around, we bundled up all our things, headed out in the freezing cold and off to work and the new daycare. When we arrived Sullivan looked up, noticed the ceiling fan int the room, and smiled. I knew he would be just fine. When I picked him up I was reassured he was going to love it there. He had a great first two days, taking great naps, playing in a jumperoo, exersaucer, and on floor mats, playing with the loads of toys and bubbles, reading, listening to music and finally eating like he was before he got sick.

Here's a look at our big boy and his new place away from home!

A First

There has been a lot going on at the Nelson household. Too much of bad things and we can't wait to get back to normal.

On Friday afternoon a good friend of mine, Allison was watching Sullivan. She called me shortly before I was about to leave work. Sullivan had stopped eating and had a temperature. When I picked him up and brought him home sure enough he was hot to the touch and running a fever. It progressed through the evening and Saturday morning we had our first trip to Urgent Care. The verdict was.....nothing. Doctor said he was breathing fine, ears were good, temp had gone down, and it was just a cold running it's course.

The weekend went on with good and bad moments. Fever going up and then going back down. One thing that continued to get worse was his cough. By Monday morning I decided it was a no go for daycare or work and it was time to make an appointment with his pediatrician. After an hour and half at the doctor, we came home with a nebulizer, treating him for bronchitis. My poor baby boy sounds like a barking seal and can cough so hard he vomits! Today was better, less coughing but the cough still sounds horrible. I hope and pray he has major improvements tomorrow so I can go back to work on Thursday and we can get back on schedule.

I love my cuddle time these last couple of days. It's been great keeping him away from other germs and making sure he gets plenty of naps. Today we did have some time to sit and watch the birds in our backyard. Hard to tell he's not feeling well, but being awake for a couple of hours and trying to play wears this little guy out.

Hoping he's all better by Saturday for his 6 month pictures. I want my smiley, happy, healthy boy back. Spring can't come soon enough!

6 months and growing.....

Today is a big day, it's Sullivan's half birthday! Hard to believe 6 months ago I was in the hospital holding this little bundle of joy wondering what his personality would be. Would he look like Mike and myself, would he have red hair, blue or green eyes, tall, short, chubby or thin? Although we are starting to see what kind of person Sullivan will be, we still have more to find out. Come hair grow, we need to know if you will have brown or red hair!!

Sullivan is definitely the joy in our lives. I love his little squirmy self, never settling to just sit still. I love how he giggles when you tickle him at his wait, under his arms or in the nook of his neck. I love how everything goes in his mouth and that even though he is still young he knows when he's doing something he shouldn't. I also love how he crosses his arm over his mouth whenever he's hungry or tired. I need to get a picture of that...

At 6 months old Sullivan is sleeping through the night most of the time. With the except of a growth spurt this last week, you usually sleep from 7:45ish to 6 in the morning. You love cereal and usually have 2 to 3 helpings every night. We can't wait to see what other food you will like soon. Sullivan also is rolling all over the place and it is only a matter of time before you will be on the move. His little legs are ready to crawl but he hasn't figures out the upper body part. We also gave Sullivan a sippy cup last week with a little water in it not sure he would like or know what to do with it. Surprising he grabbed the cup with both hands and stuck it right in his mouth and started to suck/chew.

Our baby boy is growing so fast. 6 months from now it will be July 6th. The weather will be hot, our little tot will be turning one. I'm sure in 6 months he will be close if not walking and he may even be jabbering more. I'm trying my best to savor every moment of his life.

Happy 6 months Sullivan!!

Celebrating!

Today there is much to be celebrated. I have been blogging for one year today, our baby boy is here and healthy and God has blessed us with a new year. 2012 was a wonderful year with many memories. I am thankful I have this blog to look back on and am hoping to continue this blogging journey for more years to come.

I rang in the new year with my two favorite people. Mike worked all day and on his way home last night stopped to get carry out at our favorite restaurant in Cedar Falls, Montage. We ate and celebrated with a couple of photos and then Mr. Sullivan went to bed. Mike and I stayed up and watched movie and then everyone got to sleep in a bit this morning. Today has already been a productive one. Christmas decorations are down, files are organized and ready for the new year, house is clean, laundry is working away, recycling is done, our house is full of groceries and I am working a blog post and bucket list for 2013 while the boys are relaxing and napping. Life is good.

I can't wait to see what 2013 has in store. Some of my new year "resolutions" are: making healthier choices in life both mentally and physically, finding a way to spend more time with my son and less time working/being busy, accomplishing my bucket list which I have added to the top bar of my blog.

Hoping for good health and happiness to you in 2013!
