Italiano de Nelson

Hey there, remember us......we're the Nelsons!

Sorry it's been so long since I posted last. Boy, have we had a couple of busy weeks. Let's see we've had someone break out in a rash, a trip to Urgent Care, sold a vehicle, it's raining non-stop, a trip to the ER, looking for a new vehicle all while only have one vehicle for the family of 3, and more rain. Did I mention it's raining cats and dogs outside? In the past couple of weeks it has pretty much rained 90% of the time. Our rivers are full, the streets have mini lakes, and our spouts and gutters can't gobble the water up fast enough. When will we ever see sun? When will we ever have nice weather????

Okay, so now that I'm done recapping you on that, let's get to the good stuff! Tonight I took the plunge every mother has to do. I'm not one to like messes and prides myself with having a child that is always clean, free from hanging boogers, crustys in hair and is always well dressed. The idea of giving a child tomatoey pasta and letting him feed himself seems a little crazy. On the other hand, the joy of seeing your child feed himself those tiny, slippery noodles and get excited about it, well that's definitely worth it in my book. Yes tonight was spaghetti night.

I decided rather than trying to feed Sullivan and avoiding the mess or giving him something other than spaghetti we will all get messy together. I missed bath night last night. I'm all messed up from staying home on Monday for Memorial Day. Tonight was makeup bath night and the perfect night for spaghetti. Rather than staining any clothes, we undressed Sull into nothing but a diaper and bib. Chopped up some noodles with beef, green peppers and mushrooms and tomato sauce then poured it out on his tray. We didn't expect anything less. He dove in two handfuls first and gobbled it up. This little boy loves spaghetti and by the end of the meal he figured out how he likes to eat it, by picking up one tiny little noodle at a time. We also had cheesy garlic bread and he seemed to enjoy that.

I'm sure we will have another spaghetti night down the road, but I'm okay with it not being too frequent. Praying for sunny, dry skies and good luck on getting a vehicle. We are starting to get tired of carpooling every morning.

Mothers and Bride

This weekend was another busy one. We were on the road to North Liberty, IA for yet another wedding. My cousin Melissa got married to her sweetheart, Mark. It was such a beautiful wedding and such a beautiful bride. We had a great time having a little getaway and seeing family.

It was also Sullivan's first time in a hotel. At first I didn't think it was going to go well. A super tired boy in one room with his parents where said boy moves hearing anything, paper thin walls, and a hotel full of teen boys in town for a baseball tournament running up and down halls all equals out to be a complete disaster. After a little rearranging of his sleeping arrangements, Sullivan went down and slept for most of the night with little fussing.

Congrats again Mark & Melissa. Enjoy married life!

Remember Sullivan's buddy Colin?? Colin is my cousin Nicole's little boy who was born 3 days before Sullivan. Every time we get together we have to see how the boys are growing. You can find our previous comparison here. I did have another photo from last fall but it seems I never blogged on it. Anyways these boys are growing like weeds and before we know it they will both be celebrating their first birthdays.

P.S. Don't you just love the picture of Mike and Sull??? I sure do......

Now for the post that should have been done yesterday.....

Yesterday was a very important day. It's a special day to spend with your mom and thank her for all that she has done. I am blessed to have two wonderful mothers in my life. My amazing mom, Doris and Mike's mom, Sandy. Both women have raised us to be the best we can be and now we ourselves are parents.

It was my first Mother's day and I couldn't have imagined a better day. I got to see my mom, my sister and my sister-in-law and spend the rest of the day with my two boys. I feel so blessed to be a mommy to Sullivan. Thank you mom for raising me to be who I am and to give me guidance and advice on how to be mother. I love you!

I dos and Goldfish

This weekend we headed back to Calmar for a very special wedding. My close friend Lindsey married her soulmate Ryan. Talking to the bride this week she was so worried the weather was going to be horrible.  But to a surprise by most, Saturday was a beautiful day and the wedding was everything and more. The happy couple said there I dos and then we all celebrated at the Inwood in Spillville. Everything was great from the beautiful bride to the decorations, to the food and mini cupcakes. Even the live band was a great choice.

This morning we woke to a big day for my dad and the grandkids. Today was fish moving day! My dad has had a pond for years. After moving to their new home this past fall, my dad has been planning of a bigger, better pond then the last one at their old house. Today the weather was nice and the pond water was ready. While dad put them into the buckets, the grandkids counted and named a few. My brother then transferred them into their new home. All 38 fish roamed freely into their new living quarters. Even "big hoss" looks tiny in the big pond.

Hopefully Spring has decided to stay. We have our second and final wedding of the year this coming weekend. Hopefully there will be sunny skies and warm temperatures. Enjoy your week!
