Grandma turns 70!

Mike's mom turns 70 tomorrow so we spent the day celebrating. Sullivan loves seeing family and has a very special place for his grandma Nelson.

We treated her to a wonderful lunch and sang happy birthday. Sullivan picked out a sun cake just for her.

She is recently retired so we hope she has a wonderful 70th birthday doing what she wants. Enjoy the day Sandy!

24 Weeks

24 Weeks.

Baby is moving a ton and growing! My doctor appointment on Monday shows baby weighing around 2 pounds with long legs. Everything looks good on the ultrasound too. He seems to be taking after his older brother with the long legs, measuring a week ahead of schedule and never staying still. Hopefully this baby will cooperate a little better when it comes to delivery. It was also very clearly confirmed he is a boy.

Anytime I have an ultrasound I can't help but feel giddy and extremely blessed to have this little bundle growing inside of me. Before knowing the gender I had a hard time imagining Sullivan being a big brother to a little boy sibling. I think this is mainly due to the fact that he is with little girls all day at daycare. Now knowing that the baby is a boy and we can refer to him as little brother, life feels  just right. I couldn't imagine it any other way. The thought of Sullivan teaching his brother the ins and outs of life and having a "partner in crime" is the perfect puzzle piece to our family.

At 24 weeks the baby is the length of an ear of corn, probably longer in our case since he's got long legs. Baby's hair color is getting more defined and he will be packing on the pounds from here on out. Sleep for me is going better than before although I'm still having pain in my hips and when I'm not wearing my compression stockings, my feet swell.

We are starting to transition our house for baby's arrival. We've already switched Sullivan into his new room and his new bed. We still have finishing touches to do and need to change out his closet. Baby rooms is temporarily our guest bedroom until we find storage for those items and relocated all of Mike business items to his office. Suddenly our 3 bedroom house feels like a 1 bedroom apartment. I know we will eventually need to find more space but in the meantime, my organization skills will be put to the test. More details on the transition to come.

I have one more 4 week appointment and then I'm moving on to every two weeks. With this pregnancy flying by and Sullivan starting preschool in a little over a month, our household is having some major life changes. Time to soak up my little boy before he's a big brother and a student!

Last Minute Getaway

With this weekend being are only full free weekend, I was on the fence, do we do a little family vacation or do we stay home and relax. Well at about 6 pm last night we chose the first option. So we quickly packed an overnight bag and hit the road.

It was like last year all over again. We chose the same hotel, and same destination. Des Moines-Blank Park Zoo and overnight at a hotel in Ankeny. We arrived at the hotel a little before 9 to a full house and we took the last available room. We opted for an early morning swim instead of staying up late because it was full and event was going on in the banquet room.

Up an at em at 6:20 am, impatiently awaiting the pool to open at 7 am. On the dot, Sullivan and Mike were splashing around having a blast.

The rain was coming down good in Ankeny and Des Moines, I was starting to regret our getaway if there was going to be no zoo. With an eye on the forecast, a slow moving morning and an excellent hot breakfast, we inched our way to Blank Park Zoo. By the time we arrived the rain was stopping and the parking lot was getting full. More disappointment when we walked in the door seeing that giraffes weren't available for feeding and the train was down all due to the wet weather.

We decided to make the best of it and so glad we did. This trip turned out awesome! The weather warmed up and dried so everything was rolling, including giraffe feedings and train rides. We hit all the stops this time around. We saw the seal show, rode the train and carousel, fed some goats, saw the furry lion and fed the giraffe. Life is good! 4 hours at the hot zoo walking around, an hour and 50 minutes home and everyone cleaned up and ready for bed.

Our family vacation 2015 was short but sweet. We had a blast! It was the perfect getaway for more memories made.

Birthday Boy

On Monday our Sullivan turns 3. It seems like yesterday we were new parents falling in love with this tiny perfect little boy. Although we continue to fall in love with our perfect (most of the time) boy. He's not so little anymore, and he's definitely not a baby.

We look forward to seeing how he grows over the years to come. Parenthood is the best gift God can give you. I'm definitely lucky to have this boy.

Our birthday celebrations were held on Sunday with a joint birthday with Sullivan's cousin, Asher. They are one year and one day apart. We had a blast celebrating with family. Some highlights are the piƱata and the homemade birthday cake done by Grandma Nelson.

It was simple, no theme, but perfect. Happy 3rd Birthday Sullivan. Mommy and Daddy love you more than you know.

We as a family of three celebrated Sullivan's birthday day by doing what every kid loves to do, a trip to Chuck E Cheese. I used to say I would never go there, but it really isn't that bad. Sullivan had a blast burning through a 100 tokens and playing game after game. After that we ate some pizza and headed home to ride his new orange bike.

The Big Reveal

We've waited 23 weeks for this. I'm surprised that I had enough will power to hold onto the envelope containing our second child's gender for 3 weeks. I'm definitely the type who doesn't like surprises and if I have a chance to find out sooner, I will take full advantage of it.

With this challenge though it definitely opened my eyes to what other parents do, waiting until delivery to find out a baby's gender. I thought I could never do, until now.

I'm so glad we had the opportunity to find out our little's gender surrounded by family. Most were saying a girl, and I have to admit I was beginning to get suckered in to those guesses with all the differences I've had with pregnancy round two.

I guess it goes to show that not all pregnancies are the same, not all genders are the same, and not all things people tell you go with a certain gender.

Either way, we are ecstatic that Sullivan will be a big brother and have a new little brother in October or November!!

4th of July Celebrations

Happy 4th of July!

This time of year always is busy, hot and beautiful. We have more than enough celebrations, we are at the peak of summer and all flowers are in full bloom.

As we try to do every year, we like to head home for all the 4th of July celebrations. It usually starts with fireworks the night before the 4th in Fort Atkinson. This year I think was the best yet! 4th of July morning we always go the 4th of July parade in Festina. This is a cute little toy that can pack a crowd for their parade. Sullivan is full stocked up on Frooties and Mr. Freezes. Then we usually end 4th of July celebrations with a potluck and my brother and sister-in-laws house.

It was busy but fun! Judging by the video, I think Sullivan had a blast in the bounce house at the park.
