Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend was beautiful. Time spent with family, time remembering loved ones we miss, and remember those who serve our country. This weekend we also busted out our sprinkler which is a ton of fun. Sullivan loved it, Jett, not so much.

First Year in the Books

Sullivan completed his first year of preschool at the end of May. We are so proud of how much he's grown and learned over this year. For him a lot has changed from last summer. A new bedroom, new place to learn and make friends, a new baby brother, and now we are back to summer. He's so excited to be hanging out at Amy's with Jett this summer. We look forward to sunny days, ice cream cones, sunscreen, pools and sprinklers.

Over this last year Sullivan has mastered his alphabet, learned to spell his name and others in his family, learned more about Jesus, increased his skills in arts and crafts, and learned more about his numbers, recycling, weather, seasons and so much more.

A bucket List Weekend

This weekend was a big weekend for Mike, since last October he decided to start working out more and start taking better care of him self. Fast forward to the beginning of the year and he started to take on running. Quickly he began running 5 to 6 miles. By February he decided to sign up for a half marathon. This is something he's had on his bucket list for over 4 years. With a due date of May 21st, Mike ran over lunch overs and on weekends when ever possible.

I'm not sure how he does it, with a wife, two kids, a full time job, and a full time side business. His half marathon race at the Marion Arts Festival in Marion, IA was a picture perfect morning to run. He did such a wonderful job! We couldn't be more proud to see him tackle his goals and cross that finish line.

Later that evening we celebrated by going out on a date to dinner and a movie. It's rare, but such a special time when we hire a babysitter and get out just the two of us. It's been our goal to do more dates this year. So far, I'd say we are doing better than last year, we had Garth Weekend, my sister-in-law's birthday celebration, and a few little out and abouts at home. Looking forward to more.

The weather is feeling like summer and I have a boy finishing his first year of preschool this week!

6 months Jett

Jett turned 6 months on Sunday, Mother's Day. I had plans of taking it easy and having fun with the family. But at midnight, while still at my parents (an hour and half from home), Jett woke up burning hot. Quickly taking his temperature and giving him medicine, the thermometer read 100.3 and climbing. Luckily, I have the best mother around. She woke up as well and we spent the next hour wiping him down to get his temperature under control. I spent the next 6 hours holding him on my chest in a recliner so he could sleep and I stayed up making sure his temp didn't spike again. At 6:30 am we were back at it only this time his temp went to 100.6. A call to Nurse on Call said we were doing everything we could but since he had no other symptoms to just keep at it. Once we got his temp back down we drove home. My mother's day wasn't going as planned but that's the joy of being a mother. On his 6 month birthday, Jett experienced a terrible cold, possibly started from his two bottom teeth that have sprouted.

An extra day to recoup and we are finally seeing our happy joyful Jett again.

It's amazing what a month can do. From month 5 to month 6 Jett has learned and mastered rolling over in every direction. He's started cereal and just tonight tried squash for the first time. Jett has two teeth but I'm pretty sure more are coming. He loves to chew on Sohpie the giraffe and his pacifiers. Although we haven't accomplished sitting on our own yet, he's very close. But what he's also learned is crawling. Between rolling and army crawling this kid gets into everything and goes anywhere.

He's a joy and absolutely adores when his brother plays with him or when anyone talks to him. We can't wait to see how much he will continue to learn and grow over the next month!

Mother's Day Weekend

This past weekend we headed north to home. I love home and am so happy Mike likes my hometown too. While he was busy networking Red Piglet, on Saturday the boys and I met up with my sister's family and my sister-in-law's family. We had lunch, played at the park and of course went to the Whippy Dip. The Whippy Dip had the best ice cream around. Seriously the best! And on a slow day you only have to wait in line for 15 minutes. Busy days you can wait over a half an hour.

We celebrated Mother's Day on Saturday evening surrounded by all the people I love the most! Chicken dinner carry outs and good conversations. We even got in some pictures. I'm not sure the last time us girls and my mom had a picture together,  it was long overdue.

My boys

A house full of squeals, laughter, and mess is a happy house. A house of boys will always have wrestling matches on the floor, toilet seats left up, and dirt every where. I would trade this life for anything else.

These are my pride and joy.

A broken toe for Garth

Let me back up a bit to the end of April. Mike and I had planned a date weekend in a big way, by getting Garth Brooks tickets. I was so excited! Not only to just get a way for a bit but to see Garth. I'm not much of a country fan but Garth is my exception, and he's been on my bucket list for years.

Two days before the concert I stubbed my toe pretty good on an ottoman in Jett's room. The pain continued to get worse and by Friday morning, I could not even put a shoe on my right foot to go to work. I knew something was up and if I wanted to see Garth, I knew I had to go to the doctors. Almost a two hour lunch to the doctor's office turned out with a broken pinky toe and two walking boots (one heavy duty one for Garth concert and another for driving and indoors). NOT what I had in mind. I thought if it was broken all they do is tape it and tell me to take it easy. These boots have to be worn for the next 6 weeks! I'm already sick of them and cant wait to wear a normal shoe.
Feeling a little down and bummed that I wouldn't enjoy the concert like how I had planned, we still went anyways. Our tickets were pretty stellar. We were behind the stage but had second row. The stage was an island and Garth performed around the entire thing. It was spectacular! He is an amazing performer that sang his heart out at every song. He engaged with the fans and at time made almost everyone cry with his moving words. I would see Garth again in a heartbeat. The only thing I regret is not having a good camera for our amazing seats.
