Staying inside

Well I've been MIA for the last week and it may be due to our weather.

We were lucky to have warmer than normal temperatures all through the beginning of January. Then we woke up to snow falling pretty good Friday morning. Through the day all it did was snow, snow, snow.

After attempting to get my little Ford Focus out the parking spot it had been in all day, Mike had to come to the rescue to get me out. We were so thankful that when we both got home that night our neighbor had plowed our driveway. Thank you Roger!

So to return my thanks, today after church I baked a batch of Butterscotch Toffee cookies and some banana bread. Mike had never tried these cookies before and since trying one he's been asking to have more. :)

Stay cozy inside today. Baking is done, naps have been taken, 2012 tax files have been started and now we are settling in to watch football. Life is good at the Nelson house!

Here's some pictures of our snow, and my treats for our neighbor Roger. We can only hope spring will come soon..

16 weeks picture

I'm a little behind on this post since I'm already 17 weeks. To be honest, I've been procrastinating since I don't really love pictures of myself. But I know someday I'll want to see the progress of my first pregnancy and so here's the first picture of momma Jodi.

This last week I've been feeling a little different. I think I'm starting to feel the baby move, and Mike says he can hear the baby when he puts his ear to my belly. We have so much to look forward to. We thank God everyday for good health and for this little bundle growing inside me.

The baby is the size of a turnip weighing around 5 ounces and about 5 inches long from head to butt. Most recent development is the sweat glands. The baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone. The baby is also practicing sucking and swallowing.

Thank you all for taking time to vote on our poll. We love seeing the results! It's been pretty close so far with the hunch of a baby boy taking the lead. We will find out soon!! A little more than 3 weeks to go before I can go shopping for a boy or girl.

Baby Update!!

Winter has finally came to Iowa. This morning we woke to snow, gusty winds and freezing temperatures. I don't mind this weather, but why did it have to arrive the morning of my doctor's visit?

Clenching my steering wheel all the way to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, I arrive 5 minutes past my appointment. Lucky for me I think others called in to cancel because I didn't have to wait. However, I was not so lucky that because of the stressful drive in, my blood pressure was high. By the time my appointment was done and they checked it again, everything was back to normal.Whew!

Lab results came back in with normals and negatives. I found out I have an O+ blood type and I am not anemic. More good news came when they found the heartbeat right away and there was a strong 150 beats per minute. I love hearing that wonderful sound. So much that I recorded it in hopes of sharing it with all of you. Bad news is I can't seem to get it uploaded because it's only voice and no video. Sorry folks guess you'll just have to wait.

In other news, our 20 week ultrasound appointment is set! On Valentine's Day, Mike and I will get to see the baby for the first time and find out if we are having a boy or girl. We are so so excited about this, I especially have been waiting weeks to find out.

In the meantime, I have set up a poll on my blog for all my readers to vote what they think we are going to have. Located on the right side you'll see the poll. Can't wait to see what you all will guess.

Stay warm, safe travels and have a great weekend. TGIAF

Dinner party with friends!

The week is starting off great! Last night Mike and I headed over to the Barness household for our monthly dinner party.

Between Mike and I and two other couples we rotate hosting dinner parties every month or so. Last night Bryan and Allison hosted dinner at their house. It was great food, fun games and great conversation. The couple who's turn it is to host is in charge of providing drinks, main course and dessert.

Our evenings menu started with a yummy salad of pears, apple, cashews, craisins, lettuce and a poppy seed dressing. Usually I don't like to mix fruit with my salad, however this combination was OUTSTANDING....I had two helpings. We also had yummy lasagna, garlic toast and a fabulous dessert truffle of brownies, chocolate pudding, whip cream and fresh raspberries.

After we had full bellies, we settled in for a good board game, Pictionary. Here's some pictures from the evening. The table was so beautiful, great job Allison!

Have a great week everyone!

Hackman Christmas

Well the first week of January is in the book for 2012. It's going to be hard to work a full 5 days without it feeling like dragging on. We started the week with Mike not feeling the greatest and ended the week with me not feeling the greatest, mostly a head cold.

On Saturday Mike and I left to head north to my parent's house. That evening was the Hackman Christmas. Always a good time with great food and conversation. This year we had soup, ugly sweaters, trivia game, and 3 girls pregnant with 5 weeks difference in due dates! Here's a picture of my cousins Amy, due in May and Nicole and I due in June.

My cousin Nicole and I are actually due on the same date! How often does that happen. :) Anyone taking bets of who's baby is born first??

More pictures of the evening including my nephew Derek. And the winner of the ugly sweaters, my cousin Marcus. Great seeing everyone! Have a great week.

Great day at home

Today was a very successful day at the Nelson household. Mike and I both slept in and then we got busy to work. Scratched off our to do list: taking down Christmas tree, cleaning the house, taking down our Ellen Street Shepard hooks, making banana bread, pay bills, take nap, work on blogs, then make an amazing dinner of cheesy chicken & broccoli rice bake from http://iowagirleats.com/2011/01/26/a-man-meal-youll-both-love-i-cant-believe-im-showing-you-this/ and finally this yummy dessert for two. Peach crisp in individual baking dishes! All I did was add brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, quick cooking oats and butter to create the crisp. Once mixed, but a little of the bottom of the baking dishes, then add canned or fresh peaches and cover the top with remaining crisp mix and bake. Two thumbs ups from both of us. Now we are settling in for the night before the workweek begins!

Welcome to our blog!

This is my first posting on my very first blog. With a new year comes resolutions. One of mine is to start a blog for my family and friends to read. With it being day one of 2012, I thought what better way to start the year with a blog entry. This year is sure to have great things ahead, one of them being the arrival of our first child. Mike and I are excited to be parents!
