Fair Fun

Since it's summer, why not do something summerish and head to a county fair! We missed one of my favorites, the Winneshiek County fair, so we settled with something close by we could tackle on a weeknight.

We through our usual weeknight routine out the window and took off on Highway 218 North into Bremer County. We saw animals of all kinds including a zebra and some good looking Angus cows for dad. We got Sullivan a dog balloon animal. Purchased a few tickets for rides and slide, played a game or two for yet another stuffed animal and then settled in for some people watching eating some fair food that everyone picked out themselves. I remember spending the weekends going to the fair grounds, meeting up with classmates I've missed all summer long, riding the rides until I felt sick, and eating all cotton candy and snow cones I could handle.

So many things scream summer time like watermelon, sweet corn, pools, vacations, camping, BLTs, and fairs.

A trip to the library

A few days ago we took our first family trip to the Cedar Fall Library. Sullivan had a blast looking through the aisles of books and movies, checking out the fish and play area and he even made a little craft while we were there.

It was the perfect little visit and we left with a few books on listening, manners and bullies and even a couple of books for dad. After finishing and returning our books tonight, Sullivan is already asking when we will return again for more good books.

I couldn't agree more, our next trip will have to happen again soon. The Cedar Falls library is perfect and has wonderful little reading nooks for all ages.

8 Month Old

Jett is 8 months old already and pretty soon he'll be turning 9 months. Where o' where is the time going? Someone asked me the other day if I've thought about his birthday yet. Excuse me? He's still a baby, and I certainly can't even think about him turning one yet.

At 8 months old Jett is still waking in the night, but at least it seems to be contained to only once a night. If we're lucky like last night, he slept all the way through till 5:30 am, drank a bottle and went back to sleep. We had to wake him at 7:15am to get ready for daycare. I can handle that type of sleep schedule. Jett also is starting to eat and enjoy food, HOORAY!! Some of his favorites are the Mum Mum wafer crackers, bananas, and blue berries. He seems to do best eating independently but yet when it comes to drinking a bottle, you have to hold it.

A few weeks ago Jett popped two more teeth making the total to 4 and just this week, he started to grind his teeth. My dad just says he's sharpening them up! Jett loves his big brother. Following him around, climbing on him, playing with his toys and in his room. It sure melts my soul when I see both my boys together and the joy on Jett's face when big brother plays or reads to him. Jett's also a big fan of cords. LOVES cords, climbing on anything and even sitting in the nook under our end tables. He pulls himself up on anything or anyone. In fact, Amy our babysitter said that whenever another mom picks up their child from daycare, Jett crawls over to them and climbs up their leg so they'll pick him up. He loves attention, even strangers notice his beaming smile when someone looks or talks to him.

It's still skeptical but every day more and more it looks like Jett might be turning into a red head or strawberry blonde. I love it and hope that he get a full head soon enough so we can see once and for all. Other favorites of Jett include baths, his taggie blanket, milk, sitting up in a cart all by himself, crawling into the bathroom, crawling through tunnels and chewing on necklaces.

He's a joy and we are so blessed to call him our son.

Birthday Celebrations

Why celebrate your birthday once, when you can celebrate twice! On Sullivan's actual birthday we surprised him with a "trap" in his doorway when he woke up followed with balloons and streamers in throughout the house. Unfortunately Mom and Dad had to work, but Mrs. Amy celebrated the day with Sullivan and made it extra special. That night, we went out for pizza at Sullivan's request and cake back home.

Then this past weekend we celebrate with a birthday party with Sullivan's cousin Asher. We've been having joint birthdays for 4 years now since the boys are a year and one day apart. This year's theme was 4th of July. Low key but special with fun invites designed by Mike, a little red, white and blue, and a cozy pool for the kids to splash around in. We had such a lovely time and the food and cake were yummy! Both boys loved all their presents.

Another year in the books and Sullivan already is asking when his birthday will be again.
